Will IT contractors help lift the UK out of the downturn?

ICT has a crucial role to play in the world's recovery from the economic downturn, an analyst has claimed, which could interest IT contractors.
Researcher IDC has claimed that this will have a transformational affect that could lift the sector out of the recession.
Key trends among these lines will be the growth of cloud computing, software as a service, mobility and Web 2.0.
John Gantz, chief research officer and senior vice president of the organisation, has claimed that going back to business as usual will not be an option for businesses.
He stated: "The companies that push ahead with these new technologies will gain significant business advantages as the recovery progresses."
Earlier this month, IDC Government Insights published research predicting that government spending on IT in Western Europe will exceed $68.6 billion (£43.93 billion) a year by 2013.
This number takes into account hardware, software and IT services purchased across the continent.
