Western European govt IT spending to top $68.6bn by 2013

Government spending on IT in Western Europe is set to exceed $68.6 billion (£43.93 billion) by 2013, which could be good news for IT contractors.
Research by IDC Government Insights stated that this must take into account hardware, software and IT services across the continent.
The total amount spent on these areas equated to $56.6 billion in 2008 and so it is set to expand by 21 per cent in the time frame.
Jan Duffy, research director for European government technology decision support at the analyst, highlighted the importance of suppliers improving their services, which could include hiring IT contractors.
She said: "[They must] address the need for modern infrastructures and application capabilities, streamlined processes, and a demonstration of cost containment or, even better, cost reduction."
Earlier this week, IT Job Board head of marketing Jamie Bowler claimed that the number of IT sector jobs will grow in availability during 2010.
