Virgin Media to cut IT contractor rates

Virgin Media is reportedly set to go ahead with plans to reduce the rate it pays its IT contractors.
The media provider currently employs as many as 400 IT contractors on a freelance basis, and while levels of income have risen over recent months, IT Pro has revealed that it is nevertheless intent on cutting rates by 15 per cent.
Specifically, the upcoming pay-cut will be targeted at those IT specialists earning £300 or more a day, with permanent staff unaffected by the move, which has been described as a normal business development.
Speaking to the online publication, a Virgin Media spokesman said: "We regularly review the arrangements we have with suppliers to ensure we are getting the best value from these relationships."
On the plus side, earlier in the month the recruitment specialist Adecco predicted that demand for IT contractors is set to keep rising over the remainder of 2010, with opportunities for those with specialist knowledge in Bluetooth technology set to be particularly good over the coming months.
