Vacancies rise in IT contracting
IT contractors have seen a rise in job vacancies since the start of the year, according to new research.

Jobs in the IT contracting sector have increased by 23.3 per cent since the beginning of this year, findings by JobsAdWatch.co.uk showed.

However, these vacancy rates are at just half of those prior to the recession and the location and type of these jobs ranges widely, with 81.5 per cent of all advertised contracts being based in the south.

Regarding job types, system designers, project managers and business analysts are the roles most needed with demand for web designers falling my 12.1 per cent from the previous quarter.

In addition, financial services and software houses/consultancies make up 35.8 per cent and 44.5 per cent of the market, respectively.

This reflects the decrease in demand for public sector workers resulting no doubt in part from government cuts.

Contractors worried about the changes can make the most of National Freelancers Day on November 23rd by talking to others in the business either in person or online about their concerns.
