Use of SSDs among firms 'is set to rise by 90 per cent'

IT contractors can expect to see a large increase in the number of firms using solid state drives (SSDs) in the near future, it has been claimed.
According to the latest report from Objective Analysis, sales of SSDs are expected to grow by 90 per cent, from 150,000 units in 2010 to 4.1 million in 2015.
Commenting on this research Objective Anaylsis' Jim Handy claims that SSDs can provide businesses with a number of benefits.
SSDs bring with them an improvement in battery life and quicker boot times, while they are also a lot more rugged - meaning the chances of damage to the storage device is significantly reduced.
"This last point has been very popular with heavy industry
the SSD can be easily removed from the shattered PC and placed into a new PC," Mr Handy explained.
The need for durable storage devices will only continue to grow, as the International Data Corporation reports that by 2020, our digital universe will be 44 times as big as it was in 2009.
