Unemployment fall 'could benefit IT contractors'

New figures show that unemployment is down at its lowest level since May 2008, which could be good news for IT contractors.
The Office for National Statistics has announced that International Labour Organization data showed 7,000 more people were in work at the end of November.
Unemployment currently stands at 2.457 million people, the equivalent of 7.8 per cent of adults able to work in the UK.
Yvette Cooper, secretary of state for work and pensions, claimed that while the job market is still tough for many IT contractors, the news has been very positive.
She said: "The extra investment in jobs, education and training is making a real difference, helping people through the recession and preventing the kind of unemployment we saw in the 80s and 90s."
In response to the announcement, TUC general secretary Brendan Barber warned that there was still a long way to go before the jobs market could be described as 'healthy'.
