UK firms 'will buy more services and less IT' in 2010
IT contractors will soon find that the firms they work for are buying more services and less IT software, it has been claimed.

Companies will be looking to save costs as the UK IT sector struggles to recover from the recession, according to the National Computing Centre (NCC).

The head of marketing at the NCC Michael Dean claims that the IT sector is naturally bullish and will recover from the economic crisis, but there are seismic changes on the way that the industry will have to adapt to.

"There are big shifts coming in the way corporates buy IT - as outsourced, or cloud computing matures – in availability, flexibility, security – end users will be buying more services and less IT in," he explained.

In addition, he notes that many smaller independent IT companies have been absorbed by larger firms during the recession, giving the big boys a stranglehold on the market.

According to the latest predictions from market research company Forrester Research, the global IT industry is expected to grow by 7.7 per cent in 2010.
