UK firms 'ignorant' of CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme
IT contractors may be required to help companies comply with the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme.

Despite the fact that UK firms only have until September 30th to register or face fines, less than a quarter of the companies that are to be affected by the new carbon emissions legislation have not done so as yet, according to Greenocity.

In addition, while general business knowledge of the scheme is low, understanding within the IT sector is "non-existent", claims the firm's managing director Tony Fisher.

"This lack of IT awareness is shocking. Organisations will miss vital opportunities to reduce their energy bills and CO2 emissions," he said.

The scheme aims to encourage energy efficiency by placing additional costs on carbon emissions, making organisations measure and report them.

M&C Energy Group, the UK's largest energy consultancy, has this week questioned the government's effectiveness in communicating impending deadlines in the legislation to British businesses.ADNFCR-2994-ID-800024970-ADNFCR
