UK firms 'are struggling with IT efficiency'
UK firms are struggling to get a grip on IT efficiency, it has been claimed, which could lead to additional job roles for IT contractors.

According to IT optimisation firm Centrix Software, one of the biggest problems for IT managers is establishing how applications and devices within the network are being used in the day-to-day business.

In a survey conducted by the firm, 54 per cent of respondents could get this information with some difficulty, while 22 per cent said doing so would be either "extremely difficult" or "impossible".

This shows that many companies do not have the necessary tools in place to really be sure that their IT investments are actually paying off, according to the chief executive office of Centrix Software Lisa Hammond.

She went on: "Many businesses harbour unnecessary costs due to not taking the most efficient path to delivering IT.

"By having the ability to track and monitor their application usage, immediate cost savings could be made without affecting performance."

IT managers across the UK are currently fighting to get back IT budgets lost to the recession, the latest research from Dynamic Markets and Numara Software indicated last week.
