UK companies 'need to engage more with their staff'

UK firms need to look at how they engage with staff, such as IT contractors, it has been claimed.
According to a new report from PricewaterhouseCoopers, British companies are lagging behind their American counterparts when it comes to investing in their workforce.
The Human Capital (HC) index establishes what profit is made for each pound spent in remuneration. The UK has seen a 4.6 per cent rise in HC in the last 12 months, while the US has seen an increase of 19.8 per cent.
Reacting to the news, Mike Petrook, head of public affairs at The Chartered Management Institute, said that more needs to be done to engage employers with their workforce and to build understanding between the two.
He concluded: "The issue is that the evidence suggests there is a large disconnect.
"A government report a year ago said that employee engagement levels are at their lowest ever level."
