UK banks 'providing job roles for IT contractors'

Retail banks in the UK have become a great source of job vacancies for IT contractors, it has been claimed.
Ongoing integration work at nationalised financial companies such as RBS and Lloyds Banking Group has led to them employing a "steady stream" of IT contractors, according to eFinancial Careers.
In addition, Barlcays has announced plans to overhaul its IT systems at a cost of £250 million each year until 2014, which will create more job opportunities for IT contractors.
"The integration work is creating huge IT projects, but they only have a finite lifecycle, so bringing in contractors for the short to medium term is the preferred option," Chris Potter, PricewaterhouseCoopers' technology assurance partner, told the online publication.
He goes on to say that the market is now better than it has been at any point during the last three years, with many banks looking to invest in new technology.
Earlier this week, a report from Dynamic Markets and Numara Software found that many IT managers are fighting to increase their corporate budgets.
