Superfast broadband receives boost from Ofcom

IT contractors will find that they have more high-speed broadband options when working away from home, thanks to a new ruling governing fibre optic cables.
Telecommunications regulator Ofcom has delivered a ruling which will force BT to provide other internet service providers access to its fibre optic cables, underground ducts and telegraph poles.
This will allow other companies to offer superfast broadband at a competitive price, making it available for more companies and individuals across the country.
Seamour Rathore, spokesperson for Broadbandchoices.co.uk, said that this move will benefit consumers as competition intensifies in the broadband market.
She went on to add that the superfast network is vital for the UK's future: "One of the issues with broadband at the moment is that we are all using much more bandwidth.
"BT's superfast broadband service has a vital role to play in meeting this need."
BT is also set to benefit, as they can begin to recoup some of the £2.5 billion investment it has made in fibre optic cabling.
