Smartphone advertising 'is about to take off'

IT contractors soon may find an increase in job opportunities, as one expert claims that the world of smartphone marketing is about to take off.
As the number of people smartphones continues to escalate, James Atkinson, editor of the mobile phone industry magazine Mobile, said more firms will look at the medium as way of conducting marketing campaigns.
His comments come after technology giant Apple announced that it will soon be introducing its iAd advertising network on the iPhone.
In the US alone, Apple has already had commitments to the tune of £42 million from firms looking to spread into smartphone marketing.
Mr Atkinson believes that with the right networks in place and enough smartphones in people's hands, the medium is set to be big business.
He explained: "The phones are now appearing that can handle it with the right speeds and downloads.
"I think the time has come for mobile advertising other than just a straight text message."
