Small businesses keen to incorporate smartphones

IT contractors may be needed to help firms integrate smartphones into their business operations, following the results of a new survey.
The Open University Business School, in conjunction with Barclays and ACCA, has found that almost half (48 per cent) of small firms are already using smartphones for business-related email or internet.
In addition, a further nine per cent are planning to adopt this technology by the end for 2010, with entrepreneurial firms driving take-up, the poll showed.
The Open University Business School's professor Colin Gray said that these results showed a continued trend towards ICT from growth-minded firms.
"Businesses are motivated by the ease, decreasing costs and the exceptional increase in power we're seeing in handsets," added Barclays Business managing director Steve Cooper.
The business development manager for DeviceLock Alexei Lesnykh recently urged companies to modify their data security procedures to specifically target the iPad, as it is increasingly being used to access corporate networks.
