Should broadband usage during World Cup concern IT contractors?

IT contractors responsible for monitoring broadband data usage for employers may be well-advised to be particularly keen to changes during World Cup game coverage.
Businesses could face significant charges for exceeding their data usage limit, according to broadbandchoices.co.uk.
The price comparison site's product director Michael Phillips explained: "Streaming just one world cup match in HD alone will use up around 2.4GB, but with over 50 games scheduled to be broadcast in June online football fans could easily breach the terms of their contract."
Broadbandchoices.co.uk suggests that changing internet service provider could mitigate the impact of broadband data use during the tournament, which may encourage IT contractors to consider suggesting a broadband provider change to their employer, if interest in the World Cup games is high.
Earlier this month, the Federation of Small Businesses urged organisation leaders to ensure that they are aware of the legal implications of staff behaviour, time off and sickness during the tournament.
