Services sector growth and jobs 'to drive economy forward'

IT contractors may see an increase in job opportunities within the services sector, as growth in this area is thought to be key to the UK's recovery.
According to Jonathan Loynes, chief European economist at the research group Capital Economics, the services sector represents two thirds of the economy.
As such, growth in services is set to provide the backbone of new revenue growth and employment opportunities as the UK moves forward, he suggests.
Mr Loynes does go on to suggest, however, that the consumer side of the services sector will not continue to do as well as it has done in recent years.
"The public as well has been pushing the economy along over the last decade or so, and that trend is going to be going into reverse over the next few years, with the spending cuts that are going to be coming into force," he added.
According to the latest data from the British Chambers of Commerce, the UK economy continued to grow in the fourth quarter of 2010, although at a slower rate than that observed in the second and third quarters.
