Scottish ministers told to 'get a grip' on data security
Scottish ministers may have need for IT contractors, as they have been told they need to "get a grip" on data security.

Information obtained by the Liberal Democrats has revealed that the public sector north of the border has lost scores of laptops, mobile phones and USB storage devices, the BBC reports.

In total, seven NHS areas have recorded lost patient files and personal details on individuals, while Strathclyde Police have mislaid a USB stick containing details of investigations.

Liberal Democrats justice spokesperson Robert Brown said that a lot of information is held by the public sector and they hold a responsibility to ensure that it is secure.

"The government is not in control of the situation. They need to get a grip on this right now," he said.

Zurich Insurance was recently sanctioned with a £2.275 million fine from the Financial Services Authority following a serious breach of data security regulations.
