Pensions law changes 'good news for IT contractors'

IT contractors should not be overly concerned with the latest changes to the pension system, it has been claimed.
The Department of Work and Pensions recently announced that all companies will soon have to provide a pensions scheme, into which all employees will be entered, although they can they voluntarily opt-out.
According to Contractor Calculator, it has been confirmed that these rules will apply to umbrella firms employing IT contractors, although again, IT contractors can choose not to participate in them.
Specialist independent financial adviser Tony Harris told the website that the news is broadly good for IT contractors, as it may prompt many of them into organising their pension pot earlier than normal.
"Contributions made early in a contractor's career can have a greater chance to grow and ultimately provide for a much more comfortable retirement," she said.
Recruitment group Greythorn recently predicated that there is to be an imminent return to pre-recession employment levels in the UK IT sector.
