PCG welcomes end to IR35 legislation
One of the biggest organisations representing the interests of UK IT contractors has lent its backing to the proposal to ditch IR35.

The Professional Contractors' Group (PCG) believes that "few will lament" the legislation, which took effect a decade ago to stop contractors effectively working as full-time employees for a business, ZDNet reports.

A spokesperson from the group told the news provider that the PCG is "delighted" that the coalition group is consigning the legislation to history.

"It was badly drafted and created massive and unjustifiable problems for contractors," they commented.

Many IT contractors became infuriated with IR35, believing it to be both time-wasting and unnecessarily bureaucratic.

The Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition announced in their Programme for Government that they intended to do away with the legislation.

IR35, which was originally announced in 1999, is designed to stop the avoidance of contractors paying income tax and National Insurance contributions.ADNFCR-2994-ID-19805305-ADNFCR
