PC microprocessor shipments 'on the rise'

The number of PC microprocessor units being shipped worldwide has risen by 31.3 per cent year-on-year, which could suggest new positions being created for IT contractors.
A study by IDC has found that a full-year rise for 2009 of 2.5 per cent, although revenues fell by $28.6 billion (£17.69 billion).
Shane Rau, director of Semiconductors: Personal Computing research at the analyst, claimed that the modest rise suggested that the PC market is returning to its seasonal patterns.
He stated: "Compared to 4Q08, the huge rise in shipments indicated that the market has put the recession behind it. Both comparisons indicate that the PC industry anticipates improvement in PC end demand in 2010."
Mr Rau added that companies are beginning to buy server processers again, suggesting that there could be new IT contractor jobs becoming available worldwide.
The games industry is one area where new positions could soon be created, following Codemasters non-executive chairman Chris Deering's call for the government to offer this sector more support.
