NI insurance rises 'will reduce job opportunities'

IT contractors will have fewer job opportunities if the government's plans to increase employers' National Insurance contributions go through, according to a leading recruitment group.
The government plans to increase employers' National Insurance contributions from 12.8 per cent to 13.8 per cent from April next year.
In response, the Conservative shadow chancellor George Osbourne has promised that, if elected, the party will block the proposed rise.
Responding to Mr Osbourne's promise, the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC) welcomed the move, saying that the planned rise will "certainly reduce" the number of contractors firms hire.
"Any increase on employers' contributions to National Insurance will result in onward costs in the supply of the one million temporary and contract workers we find jobs for every week," said the REC's chief executive Kevin Green.
The Budget was not all bad news for businesses however, as the REC last week praised the government's proposed cuts to business rates for small businesses.
