Media freelancers 'should embrace tablet computers'
Contractors and freelancers working in media-related industries have been advised to invest in a tablet computer.

Marius Cloete, head of research at the Professional Publishers Association (PPA), said that many market commentators believe that these technologies may attract new audiences for magazine publishers, as tablet computers will not necessarily speed up the demise of printed versions.

He explained that as tablet computing is "visually rich" and complements the printed magazine format, the devices have grabbed the attention of publishers.

"Print remains at the core of many publishers' activities, but in recent years magazines have successfully extended their reach and engagement by delivering content across a variety of platforms," he said.

Meanwhile, Tim Gibbon, director at Elemental Communications, has said that social media has seen a massive spike as the business benefits of utilising it to market online have become apparent.

He added that it is essential that brands maintain an ethical and successful rapport with their audiences, while ensuring their style and tone are typical of the business.
