Marketing spending 'set to move online'
UK firms' spending on online marketing has increased, which could lead to further job roles for IT contractors.

According to eMarketer, online advertising offers an "excellent" return on investment and now has a proven, mature market in the UK.

The firm's senior analyst Karin von Abrams said that the recession and the realisation of spending cuts will make an even stronger case for the online medium.

Ms Abrams added that it is the same sectors that led the web revolution that are pushing online marketing.

"Industries such as technology, telecoms, entertainment and media were among the first to shift significant amounts of spending online, because their target audiences were among the first to embrace the internet," she explained.

Advertising revenues took a hit during the recession, but the world's largest media-buying network, is now predicting that the worst is over.

GroupM is now predicting growth of around 3.5 per cent in advertising spending in 2010.
