Jobs market 'set to stay flat'
IT contractors are likely to find that the UK jobs market is to stay flat for some time, it has been claimed.

According to the chief executive of the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC) Kevin Green, the latest Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures reflect similar feedback from the REC's members.

The ONS revealed earlier this week that unemployment had fallen in the last quarter, down 49,000 to reach 2.46 million job seekers.

Although private enterprise is increasing recruitment, public sector job cuts will balance that out, leaving a flat jobs market, Mr Green explains.

"Achieving this equilibrium is crucial. It must involve limiting the public sector jobs deficit by avoiding knee-jerk staffing cuts as well as well as boosting job creation in the private sector," he said.

REC's latest Report on Jobs showed that there has been an increase in staff appointments for both permanent and temporary.
