IT workers 'unaware of CRC scheme'
Large numbers of IT contractors are oblivious to the effect that the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme is having on the sector.

According to research conducted by document management software company Version One, 22 per cent of IT professionals don't even know what the CRC scheme is.

In addition, 42 per cent say that they have heard of it but are unsure whether their company qualifies.

The CRC scheme monitors the use of carbon in UK firms, based on electricity consumption.

Version One's managing director Julian Buck said that it is surprising how many IT professionals are unaware of the legislation or have not bothered to check if they qualify.

"With the registration deadline rapidly approaching, it's vital that organisations act now or they run the risk of being hit by financial penalties," he said.

Capgemini's programme director for infrastructure Paul Wilson recently claimed that switching to modular data storage is a good way to save energy in IT.
