IT security spending 'will increase in 2010'
IT contractors specialising security could soon see more job opportunities as UK firms increase their spending.

According to the head of marketing at the National Computing Centre Michael Dean, IT security will be one of the main areas to see spending growth, as the number and sophistication of malware and virus threats continues to increase.

Another will be investment in collaboration applications such as Microsoft's Sharepoint, which is becoming very popular due to the stability and functionality found with the 2010 version.

"Desktop virtualisation is growing as it offers reduced running costs, whilst outsourcing of day-to-day operations - commodity items like email, Office apps - will also grow," Mr Dean added.

IT research and advisory firm Gartner recently predicted that IT spending across the globe is set to rise to $3.350 trillion (£2.206 trillion) in 2010, an increase of 3.9 per cent from 2009 spending of $3.225 trillion (£2.123 trillion).
