IT security investment 'is strong and set to remain so'
IT contractors will be pleased to hear that investment in IT security software is set to increase by 11.3 per cent in 2010.

According to IT research firm Gartner, spending on security programs is to exceed $16.5 billion (£10.6 billion) by the end of the year, compared to the $14.8 billion (£9.48 billion) spent in 2009.

This could mean jobs for IT contractors, as firms look to protect their data and corporate information.

"Most segments of the security software market will continue to grow over the next few years, although a significant degree of variation is expected between the more-established and less-mature technologies," said Gartner's principal research analyst Ruggero Conti.

IT contractors specialising in security are likely to find it is one of the fastest growing markets in the sector, he concluded.

The permanent secretary at the Ministry of Defence Sir Bell Jeffrey recently claimed that the department must do more to protect itself from data loss and cyber crime.ADNFCR-2994-ID-800026686-ADNFCR
