IT education 'must keep up with pupils'
IT education needs to keep up with pupils' technological skills if more young men and women are to become IT contractors and have other jobs in the field, one expert has claimed.

Maggie Berry, managing director of Women in Technology, said the subject needs to be updated and have a branding overhaul to get young people interested.

"More education for young girls about what careers in technology can offer is crucial if we want to encourage the next generation of female talent to work in IT. The image of IT being geeky and boring needs to be overhauled in order to interest more girls in technology," she explained.

Ms Berry also pointed out that women make up just 15 per cent of applicants to computing and IT degrees.

This comes after the IT Job Board released figures that revealed just 16 per cent of IT jobseekers are female.
