IT contractors 'will stay in demand'

The lack of IT literacy in the UK workforce is great news for IT contractors, it has been claimed.
Those who do have the requisite skills will always be in demand in this information-driven age, according to ITContractor.com's Gerry McLaughlin.
Britain's information technology sector is having to face up to a skills shortage, he claims, with the number of people doing IT degrees falling and leaving a void of young candidates for many jobs.
He said: "IT will prove to be a lucrative and much safer profession over the next five to ten years.
"The information age has arrived and those working in IT are in the vanguard of it."
Mr McLaughlin went on to say that once the unemployment rate falls, salaries for IT contractors will be pushed up further.
Lack of "ready candidates" for these positions has led to a fall in the ratio of candidates per job vacancy, from 1.5 to one at the end of 2009 to 1.4 to one at the start of this year.
