IT contractors warned to expect World Cup bandwidth explosion
IT contractors dealing with business broadband and network services have been warned to expect their employer's bandwidth to be stretched to near capacity during the World Cup.

Bandwidth use in Europe is expected to double during key matches, from 40.25 per cent to 78.67 per cent, according to figures from network management firm Ipswitch.

Across World Cup nations, bandwidth use will increase by 38.85 per cent on average, although this will more than double to 86.89 per cent during games.

UK business broadband bandwidth use specifically is expected to rise from 30.79 per cent to 71.85 per cent during England matches, despite many firms having made alternative arrangements.

Commenting on the findings, president of the firm's network management division Ennio Carboni said: "Your business depends on your network for successful operation.

"Users making use of video streaming services can put a considerable strain on companies' networks, resulting in bandwidth chokes and even outages, in addition to exposing them to security threats."

Companies have also been warned by the Federation of Small Businesses to ensure that they have an appropriate strategy for employees during the World Cup.

There is concern that legal problems could arise due to absences or requests for time off.ADNFCR-2994-ID-19831668-ADNFCR
