IT contractors 'to get extra bank holiday in 2012'
IT contractors will be enjoying an extra day's bank holiday in 2012 in honour of the Queen's diamond jubilee.
Those working in the technology sector will be able to enjoy the late May Bank Holiday, which will be moved to Monday 4th June, followed by the next day, which will be the new break.
Lord Peter Mandelson, lord president of the Privy Council, claims that the diamond jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II is an event which will go down in history.
He states: "This special Diamond Jubilee weekend will also be an opportunity to reflect on the incredible changes that have taken place during that time, both at home and around the world."
In addition to an extra day off, there will also be a Diamond Jubilee Medal which will be issued to recipients based on criteria that are still under consideration.
The new date will take the total number of bank holidays for those working in the UK in 2012 to nine.
