IT contractors' tax legislation 'has blighted lives'
IR35 legislation was ill thought-out and has blighted the lives of IT contractors and freelance workers for years, it has been claimed.

According to the managing director of freelance lobby group PCG John Brazier, cost and distress caused to self-employed workers trying to deal with the complex system has been high.

Mr Brazier therefore welcomes the government's pledge to review IR35 and replace it with something simpler, a pledge reiterated when the emergency Budget was announced earlier this month.

Despite the problems it has caused IT contractors and other freelancers, Mr Braizer is insistent time should be taken to get the changes right.

He concluded: "Post IR35, we hope that the new environment works for freelancers and the economy.

"We also hope for a fairer structure that is transparent and is understood on all sides."
