IT contractors 'still rely on paper records'

Despite being tech savvy, it seems many IT contractors are still reliant on paper records to keep track of their business dealings.
New research from software company Version One finds that 86 per cent of senior IT professionals still rely on paper records, while over half (51 per cent) of these insisting that they remain heavily reliant upon them.
Worries over document security and legislative permissibility appear to be the main hurdles for IT contractors looking to switch from paper records to an electronic document management (EDM) system.
Julian Buck, managing director of Version One, explained: "The benefits of EDM include significant cost and time savings and greatly enhanced customer service.
"In addition, as electronic documents are legally permissible, organisations should not feel obligated to hold on to paper."
Using electronic documents may make life easier for IT contractors dealing with IR35 tax codes.
The Institute of Directors recently claimed that IR35 is so complex that far from being the solution to the problem of disguised employees avoiding tax, it has itself become the problem.
