IT contractors 'reminded to submit tax returns'
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has reminded IT contractors about the importance of submitting their self-assessment tax return.

It has announced that four million of the estimated 9.5 million returns expected this year have been submitted so far and has warned that missing the January 31st deadline will result in a £100 penalty.

Sarah Walker, from the HMRC, has highlighted the fact that this date is also the last date where any money owed from the 2008-09 tax year can be paid.

She said: "The January 31st filing deadline is just around the corner, so if you haven't yet sent in your 2008-09 tax return, you need to take action now. Don't risk a penalty - make sure you file your return online and on time."

Earlier this month, HMRC announced that it would be centralising its agent detail registration process in order to improve the efficiency of the process and streamline the handling of any issues that emerge from this.ADNFCR-2994-ID-19569061-ADNFCR
