IT contractors must research the firm and role before interview
IT contractors looking at high-level posts should try and ensure that they research both the role and the business thoroughly before the interview, an expert has advised.

Andrew Robinson, head of human resources operations at Henderson Global Investors, has claimed that the key thing he looks for in applicants is knowing what they hope to bring to the firm.

He says that this is true whether it is by introducing fresh ideas or bringing a skill set that can help to inspire the company's existing teams.

"This can include challenging the status quo and looking for more creative solutions or strong ideas for business development," he asserts.

Mr Robinson adds that IT contractors or executives applying for firms should challenge the firm, ask questions and to really push on difficult subjects.

He states: "At this level, it is very much a two-way interview."

IT contractors looking for this type of role could follow the advice of Recruitment and Employment Confederation external relations advisor Phillip Curry, who emphasised the advantages for jobseekers looking at specialist recruiters for the sectors they hope to enter.ADNFCR-2994-ID-19596161-ADNFCR
