IT contractors 'must ensure the security of portable devices'
IT contractors must ensure that their portable storage solutions remain secure, according to data company IronKey.

Portable devices can be susceptible to cyber attacks due to the number of networks with varying levels of security that they attach to, the firm explains.

If done properly, mobile data storage solutions can actually become safer than the average desktop PC, claims IronKey's chief marketing officer David Tripier.

"[It's] like a trusted group, it's so important to have a base that is an encrypted, highly secure, ruggedised platform," he adds.

When considering security on portable devices, however, it is important to ensure they retain their ability to work easily with any operating system, Mr Tripier concludes.

The threat of cyber attacks is growing, according to research published by Symantec.

Malicious programs on the web have doubled in number, while 88 per cent of all email traffic was found to be spam - equating to around 107 billion messages each day.
