IT contractors may benefit from online meetings

Next-generation video conferencing solutions such as the TelePresence system, which IT contractors could soon be called upon to install, could have a significant impact on the need for business travel.
The Cisco TelePresence Virtual Meetings studio launch took place earlier this month at the Marriott Hotel in London and will allow groups of people to meet and collaborate in real-time anywhere in the world.
Meanwhile, the cost of business travel is expected to rise slightly for freelancers and other businessmen next year, according to travel management firm Egencia.
Airfares to key locations may rise a little, but the biggest increases will be seen in hotel rates in Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific region.
David Martella, director of operations and strategy for Cisco TelePresence, commented: "There may be some synergies with travel, but what [customers] tell us is that real benefit is increased collaboration, faster time to market and being able to have those relationships at long distances."
