IT contractors faced with jobs plunge
IT contractors may have seen the number of opportunities available to them in the financial services sector shrink last month, according to research by an employment pre-screening company.
The Powerchex study revealed a 47 per cent plunge in the number of jobs offered by the sector in August, considerably steeper than the 29 per cent drop which was recorded in July.
"The financial services sector is the heartbeat of the city of London and the UK economy, and so it is disappointing and a little worrying to see such a big decrease in the number of employment offers made," commented Alexandra Kelly, managing director of Powerchex.
She went on to say that opportunities for IT contractors in financial services seem to follow similar variation to those seen in the hedge funds sector.
However, there was better news from Giant Group, which stated this month that some 30 per cent of IT contractors believe the financial services sector will provide the most jobs during 2011.
