IT contractors 'could see better job prospects'

Jobs available to IT contractors and freelancers could be set to grow in future, the latest Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and KPMG report on jobs suggests.
The report, which reviewed 2010's employment trends, found that the number of vacancies reported by recruitment firms accelerated at its fastest rate since July 2007, suggesting a recovery ahead.
Kevin Green, chief executive of REC, said the labour market appears to be out of "intensive care", although he cautioned that it is still in a "fragile state".
"While employers are hiring more now than at any other time in the last year, the recovery is tentative and must not be put at risk by taxes or regulatory changes," he added.
Responding to the Comprehensive Spending Review announced in November, KPMG said IT maintenance and new system implementation jobs were likely to suffer as a result of the government cuts, as well as those in mobile telecommunications.
