IT contractors 'could benefit from public cuts'

Cuts to the public sector could end up benefiting IT contractors in a win-win situation, it has been claimed.
While the Comprehensive Spending Review may have a lasting effect on the efficiency of the public sector, IT contractors could also benefit from a new stream of work, according to Contractor Calculator.
IT contractors could see more job opportunities as public bodies have to do more with less funding, forcing them to look at highly-skilled temporary staff to respond to peaks and troughs in workloads, suggests the firm's chief executive officer Dave Chaplin.
In a blog for the website, Mr Chaplin suggests that IT contractors can offer a genuine option to reduce costs and maintain delivery standards.
"Many areas of the public sector already recognise the benefits of flexible workers, like contractors, and embrace them enthusiastically," he notes.
The Recruitment & Employment Confederation recently revealed that the growth rate for temporary worker appointments has slowed to a 14-month low.
