IT contractors may benefit from job roles in information security in the future.

As part of the National Security Strategy, the government has announced that it will be investing a further £500 million into information security initiatives over the next four years.

Earlier this week, the NSS described the threat to UK security from cyber crime as being the same as that from terrorism. Prime minister David Cameron even suggested that Britain's enemies are considering cyber crime as a new way of attacking infrastructure.

In a speech to the House of Commons, Mr Cameron pledged the extra funding and outlined exactly why it is so important.

"This will significantly enhance our ability to detect and defend against cyber attacks and fix shortfalls in the critical cyber infrastructure on which the whole country now depends," he said.

It was also confirmed that the government will be creating a contingency plan to deal with a threat to infrastructure from cyber crime.
