IT contractors 'could be needed to install ERP'

Expert IT contractors could be necessary to implement enterprise resource planning (ERP), an expert asserted.
Michael Dean, director of advisory services at the National Computing Centre, claimed that the wide-reaching impact of these systems means that it can be very difficult for organisations to roll out these advances.
He warned that IT contractors will be needed to deal with the fact that everything from tills to stock ordering and human resources to accounts will be affected by this software.
Companies that successfully roll out these applications and use them effectively can gain an advantage over their competitors, he suggested.
Mr Dean added: "ERP can help but it is one of a number of factors - others include the quality of the organisation's management and their reading of market conditions."
Recent research by the National Computing Centre found that 24 per cent of organisations have put their ERP projects on hold, compared to 29 per cent who are making no cutbacks, which could affect IT contractors.
