IT contractors 'are still in demand'
Demand for IT contractors continues to grow among UK businesses, according to a new report.

The latest data from e-skills UK shows that demand for IT contractors rose by 11 per cent in the third quarter of the year, compared to the previous three months.

This was complemented by performance in the permanent IT sector, which has seen demand for full-time workers increase by eight per cent in the last three months.

Commissioned by the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC), the report shows that advertised demand for IT contractors has now risen for four consecutive quarters, reaching its highest level since the end of 2008.

Chair of REC Technology Jeff Brooks commented: "This report confirms our view that the IT sector remains healthy and demand continues to grow.

"In several skill areas, we will continue to experience shortage of supply and this will put pressure on pay and contract rates."

The REC recently took part in the Conservative Party Conference to push for more government commitment to things such as flexible working.
