IT contractors 'are playing a key role in the recovery'

IT contractors are playing a key role in the economic recovery of businesses across the country, it has been claimed.
According to the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC), employers have placed high importance on the use of contractors and other agency staff in both their short and long-term planning.
Of the firms the REC surveyed, a total of 88 per cent of employers said that they would be either maintaining or increasing the number of temporary workers they employ over the next three months.
Reliance on IT contractors and other temporary workers will continue until the new government delivers the right conditions to allow firms to build their permanent workforces, according to the REC's director of research Roger Tweedy.
"Current demand for agency workers is spearheading the jobs market and again reinforces the importance of a flexible workforce while the economic recovery continues," he said.
Earlier this week, Coffee Republic founder Sahar Hashemi claimed that it is essential that the new government invests in small businesses, in order that they can grow and expand their workforces.
