IT contractor gender imbalance 'will be tackled through education'
A combination of awareness and education will address the gender imbalance among IT contractors, an expert has claimed.

A spokeswoman for the BCS, the chartered IT institute, claims that the existing imbalance will not remain the same forever.

She emphasises the fact that this can be overcome through a combination of both learning and through an awareness of the situation.

The representative highlights the Savvy Citizens campaign as one example of changing underlying perceptions.

"It is hoped it will go some way in closing that gap," she explains.

She also highlights the BCS Women's Group as another step towards promoting the presence of women in both IT and IT education.

Recent research by Women in Technology and the National IT Learning Centre reports that despite the fact 35 per cent of new businesses in the UK are set up by women, IT contractors have remained predominantly male.

The figure was unveiled during a campaign designed to attract more women into the industry.ADNFCR-2994-ID-19598832-ADNFCR
