IDC: IT problems can be displaced using a public cloud
The International Data Corporation (IDC) has revealed that many UK companies will have their IT problems solved by using public cloud computing.

This could mean bad news for IT contractors, as many jobs they have been brought in to resolve may simply get "displaced" to a publically-backed cloud computing network.

In doing so, a company can renounce responsibility for the IT equipment itself and focus its own limited resources on how to use they system more effectively, said David Bradshaw, European Software-as-a-Service and cloud services research manager at the IDC.

He explained: "The public cloud allows organisations to displace a problem and shift it into the cloud.

"In a sense, they have a third-party which would then, for example, run their financial system."

IT research firm Gartner recently claimed that a government-backed cloud computing network would help ministers to reduce the country's IT spending thorough joint business and technology initiatives.
