HP provides Scotland with IT jobs boost

IT contractors have been boosted by the news that technology firm Hewlett-Packard is to expand operations at its plant in Eskrine near Glasgow.
Around 700 jobs will be created in the factory, as an IT service hub is set up on the premises with the aid of £7 million in government funding.
It is welcome news for the area, after the firm announced that 700 manufacturing jobs will be shifted to the Czech Republic by October.
Scotland's first minister Alex Salmond said that Scotland's reputation for excellence in IT and customer service played a key role in the decision.
"HP's decision to make this investment at Erskine reflects the quality of Scotland's skilled workforce to perform and deliver success," he added.
IT contractors outside of Scotland may want to look to the financial markets for job opportunities, as new research from Morgan McKinley shows recruitment is booming in the City of London.
