Hospital criticised over record management

The preliminary of vetting contractors may soon need to be complemented by staff training at Savernake Hospital, Wiltshire.
Wiltshire Primary Care Trust has been urged to improve its staff training and records management by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), which may include that offered by IT contractors.
Inspectors found that records, particularly those relating to patient care, were not always complete or up to date.
Support for staff was also found to be lacking, with consent, safeguarding and restraint highlighted as key areas for improvement.
CQC regional director in the south-west Ian Biggs explained: "The records suggest that not all staff, including bank and agency nurses brought in on a temporary basis, had received the necessary training.
"The standard of record keeping generally on the ward was also poor."
He added that these issues were particularly important because of the bearing they have on staff safety and wellbeing.
Earlier this week, the CQC indicated that there were serious concerns over the quality of care at three hospitals run by the South London Healthcare Trust, which need to be addressed.
