Graduate schemes 'not always best route' for IT professionals

Younger IT contractors may be thinking about taking on jobs on graduate schemes, according to one recruitment agency.
Dan Hawes, head of marketing at grb.uk.com, said while the "obvious recruiters" may see a lot of graduates taking this path, there are also thousands of other employers who can offer graduates jobs that are not necessarily in a scheme.
"If you take a large IT firm, they have no problem hiring IT graduates, but they need people for logistics, HR, marketing, finance, accounting, all those sort of things, and it’s not always an obvious choice," he explained.
Meanwhile, IT recruitment specialist Greythorn predicted recently that the 2012 London Olympics will create around 5,000 IT and telecoms jobs, which could be great news for IT contractors.
High-tech infrastructure will be vital for the running of the Games, the company said, which are heavily reliant on technology such as WiFi coverage and measures to prevent localised cyber attacks.
