France's proposed Google tax 'unlikely to hit IT contractors'

The impact of France's proposed tax on companies like Google is unlikely to impact on IT contractors in the UK, an expert has claimed.
Andreas Pouros, chief operations officer for Greenlight, claimed that even if the country brings in the levy on firms trading primarily online this is unlikely to be adopted in the UK.
For companies that trade in France, the damage will likewise be minimal as it will be extremely problematic to practically levy the tax on firms which are not based in the country.
Unless states are willing to block access to websites such as Google, it will be hard to punish firms that refuse to pay this tax, Mr Pouros asserted.
"I don't envisage the UK would follow suit, at the very least due to its commercial and political ties with the US," he added.
Google's third quarter profit results last year revealed revenues of $5.94 billion, a rise of seven per cent year-on-year.
